As 2014 draws to a close, we (GenerousChurch) thought we would share a handful of generosity stories that captured our attention this year. The first is a video that received a ton of attention and with a “star” like this…rightfully so (http://vimeo.com/83621582).
The second story is from acclaimed Christian author Philip Yancey. He relates a story from his days in Chicago and notes the unique generosity of his church in that area (http://philipyancey.com/church-keeps-giving).
The third story is incredibly compelling because of its place in history (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/viral-secret-santa-story-inspires-millions/). 2014 brought racial struggles in the U.S. to a head as police notoriously clashed with two unarmed African Americans. Since one of these scenes played out in Ferguson, Missouri, the decision of a “secret Santa” in Kansas City to utilize generosity for healing was powerful.
In another story from the Kansas City area, Larry Powell discussed the role of generosity for his family and paves the way for others to follow (http://vimeo.com/91460243).
Fifth, Allison Hendrix tells us what it feels like when we open our lives to simple forms of everyday generosity(http://www.thehouseofhendrix.com/2014/10/29/when-strangers-become-your-people/).
