Hungry Planet: Consumption Around the Globe

The United States, with just 5 percent of the world’s population, consumes 24 percent of its energy resource. As the attached infographic from InternationalBusinessGuide.org shows, when it comes to per capita energy consumption, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Denmark surpass Americans, while Austria consumes more calories and Ireland produces more trash. We are stewards of God’s environmental resources in creation. How can Christians reconcile stewardship with resource consumption and resource mobilisation? Should evangelical Christians commit themselves to a simple life-style as the Lausanne movement called for in the past (www.lausanne.org/en/documents/lops/77-lop-20.html)?
