Loving Yourself . . . What Does the Bible Say?

Loving yourself is not a 3rd commandment that is somehow hidden in Matthew 22:36-40. Loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind and loving others as you already do love yourself are the TWO commandments on which all the Law and the Prophets depend. There is no 3rd commandment in this passage about the need to love yourself. In fact, “love of self” is a key obstacle to growing in Christ. That should not be surprising since there is no verse in Scripture that states a need to “grow in your love of self” in order to grow in Christ.
