Haiti….Hurt and Hope, A Christian perspective!

Hurt, anger, disbelief, shock–the devastation of a natural disaster displaces any personal concerns of our lives this day. It doesn’t matter what we’re having for dinner, where we’re going, what we will wear, who’s mad at whom in the family. All eyes are on TV; all ears on radio–the world is glued to any source of news they can find. We connect–and we cry with the victims of the Haiti earthquake that began the New Year 2010.

We fall to our knees in prayer for the victims and survivors, whose world is shattered and broken beyond belief. We pray for leaders, for response teams, for those giving medical assistance. And we pray for a nation of hurting people enduring heartbreak beyond belief.

God has not abdicated His throne. He sees, He knows, He understands–and He still reigns. Whatever has happened yesterday, today and tomorrow, He is still in control. Nothing escapes His watchful eye and He promises to hear the prayers of His children. Let us look to the Lord, Who IS our help and our refuge in the time of storm.

“Father in heaven, hear the prayers of Your people this day. Comfort the grieving; bring relief to the afflicted and healing to the broken. We ask for Your divine help, wisdom and grace during this difficult time for the people in Haiti. May we unite to share in their pain, providing whatever assistance we can, surrounding them with God’s love and presence today.”
