SINGLES: A little background as to why Emerson is credible not only to the married but also to singles.

Because he attended military school from age thirteen to eighteen at Missouri Military Academy, Emerson was surrounded by all boys, all the time. Upon entering Wheaton College and sitting in his freshman Lit Class for the first time, he smelled perfume.

Woah.

At military school this would have concerned him, but in a co-ed college in a suburb of Chicago, the smell of perfume peaked his curiosity. As he watched the interaction of men and women (not in a creepy way) he began to ask questions.

“Why do you give her a flower after an argument?” he asked one football player in the dining room.

“I don’t know, it just works…pass the potatoes,” #42 replied.

Experiences such as perfume and potatoes** launched Emerson’s intrigue to better understand relationships, and in particular this precious thing called woman.

With encouragement from his peers while in college, he began to pursue a deeper understanding of male and female relationships. Emerson married and furthered his academic goals after college, keeping his gender observations attuned at all times.  He then opened a free counseling clinic in Iowa, became an assistant pastor in California where he served singles and married couples as a counselor and teacher, and eventually became a senior pastor in Michigan for nineteen years, where he helped thousands of men and women.

In the 70’s his first official production looked at the uniqueness of men and women.  He called this teaching series “Male and Female Differences,” which constitutes one of the more creative titles in the 20th Century.  If you ever get your hands on a copy of it, you could sell it on eBay – under the vintage category.

After you are finished on eBay, consider signing up for the Love and Respect event nearest you. We realize there can be a level of intimidation in attending something with the label “marriage” on it when one is currently not married or engaged. But trust us that the material is coming from a man who has a heart first and foremost for God’s people and how they communicate with one another. Regardless of how you check the Mr./ Mrs./Ms./ or Miss box, remember that before there was marriage there was the garden. And in the garden God created them male and female.

Join us to learn now about the opposite sex, before you are stuck in the garden with someone who gardens way differently than you…

* Both start with a “P” if you are looking for a way to remember what started all of
this.

* Also, “Perfume and Potatoes” makes a really good band name.
