Stewardship is the responsibility of taking care of something that belongs to someone else. Olsen gives a few tips and resources to improve the way organisations deal with donors. They include:

• treating donors well,
• have a written stewardship plan,
• follow that plan,
• ask whether donors want to be recognised publicly for their giving,
• report regularly to donors,
• celebrate success with donors, and
• hire someone to focus on stewardship.
