Why Minister to a City

Dr. Ray Bakke wrote the key paper about reaching cities at the original Lausanne worldwide congress on evangelism in 1976 where I attended in Switzerland as a student.

I wrote this 14 years ago as a summary of what I knew about Dr. Bakke’s works. In reviewing it, it’s exciting to see how relevant it is for how the Early Church reached first to Diaspora (displaced people groups from their own country), Jewish ones first in the early Jerusalem church at Pentecost onward and then to sectors of non-Jewish race “people groups” within the city of Antioch, especially using initial mercy ministries, which was a  foundational strategy that was part of Paul’s foreign mission launches into other cities.

Additionally this strategy also was an important part of building unity of the Body of Christ for a whole city.–
