A small practical step

Sometime ago I noticed that my style of speaking was different in church versus at work.  For example, at church I would freely talk about God’s favor/ blessings, prayer for difficult situations, and being faithful to God.  At work, my communication style hid the reality of God in words that were politically correct.  Ironically, in the same time, I started to notice how often others would “slip” and use mild profanity without much concern for “offending” anyone else.

So I decided that I should not be so guarded and start using words that “betray” my relationship with Christ.  I have shared this new found freedom with other Christian friends and they found it encouraging and helpful.  I am now using phrases like:

  • … with God’s help …
  • God’s creation
  • … what a blessing …
  • Merry Christmas
  • … I’ve been praying for that for some time …

I also noticed that while talking to coworkers about the challenges and the joys of parenting I would have opportunities to recount spiritual advice I had given my own children.  Since I was recounting a previous conversation I had with my kids, the coworkers were receptive and inquisitive about what I said regarding such topics like church, religion, evil in the world, heaven, truth, social influence, etc…

I would be interested in other such “practical steps” or other thoughts that you are willing to share…

Thanks
