I was sitting in my study at home in Louisville, Kentucky, USA this afternoon when I read Tim Stafford’s article in Christianity Today titled, “The Connected Evangelical” (http://bit.ly/dcglQN).  I could not help but laugh when he compared the wired/high-tech 2010 delegates to those attending Lausanne I in 1974.  Classic! 

Just look at what happens to us when we have to go old school and use a pencil and paper.  Please note:  While I did not have to suffer through the technological problems in Cape Town, I can feel your pain—I was one of the 100,000 who suffered by not being able to watch the videos.  –grin

Now, think with me for a moment in how far we have come technologically speaking since Lausanne I.  Think about it.   For the first couple of days of Lausanne III, Twitter saved the day once again.  Apart from getting limited reports in 140 characters at a time, we did turn our attentions to the blogs and on-line articles.  And, wow, you would have thought it was Christmas morning when the videos went on-line!  Within minutes, I was able to watch the Opening Celebration and write a blog post on it (http://bit.ly/cSaDMk).

I have in my office a copy of the book Let the Earth Hear His Voice.  This work contains the presentations from Lausanne I.  Just think about how long it took the information, and details, of Lausanne I to pass beyond the walls of the meeting hall to spread across the world to influence the Church for the task of global evangelization.

And while the dissemination of such wisdom and research was much slower thirty-six years ago, look at what the Lord did with that historic event.  Now, while our Father does not need our Tweets, blogs, or videos, I wonder what He will do with Lausanne III where there is such a rapid rate of dissemination and processing of information coming from Cape Town.  Remember what He did with the rotary dials of Lausanne I?  I wonder what He will do with the IPhones of Lausanne III?
