Geo targeting to international traffic on medium to large web properties

For the last five years I’ve operated a website in my spare time that grew from a funny idea to a high traffic destination for its topic. I regularly ponder how best to utilize this unexpected platform for missions. Lately I’ve been thinking about international ad impressions. Even though the site caters to a US based English speaking audience it receives visits from all over the globe (264,640 visits from 214 countries since 2006 when you exclude the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand).

I work with ad networks to monetize the site. One thing I’ve learned along the way is that few ad networks have ads for audiences outside of the US, Canada and the UK. These ad impressions “default” or go to in house ads. I am starting to think there is some untapped potential here to geo target ads to specific countries / cities. Christian owners of medium to large web properties may be willing to freely give this ad inventory to organisations / evangelistic resources like the Jesus Film to place country / language specific ads. It would be an interesting merging of marketplace missions and media / technology.

Does anyone know if this kind of thing is being done already?

Any other people working with non-christian web properties that have figured out a way to leverage it for a kingdom impact?
