Amnesty for corrupt leaders in Africa, Why not?

Amnesty for corrupt leadership in Africa sounds like let these “blood suckers’ of the poor in Africa off the hook scort free. On the contrary this is an attempt to use one of the Christian teachings which invites corrupt leaders to a confession, raparation and forgiveness before they can be legible for public office including political and civil service.

How would this amnesty work one may ask? First it is important to clarify that the term amnesty is being borrowed from political science. Here a group of people may develop a political conflict with a government. In case of Uganda we had the Lord Resistance Army which abducted children, mutilated scores of persons and killed whole population in vilages creating untold suffering that resulted into internally displaced people’s camps in Northern Uganda. The government was forced to run years of amnesty as a means to attract willing individual and groups from this “terrible ” group for an amnesty. This meant that once they confessed and denounced their activities, they would be forgiven. They would handover their weapons and submit to an orientation process before being accepted into communities. If they did not, as some have, then the arm of justice and the lithal government and her international partners would hunt them until they are killed.

Well, corrupt leaders have caused equal suffering only indirectly. But the cost of prosecuting corrupt cases is proving to be too high with little or no results, because of the very reason that the society is corrupt.

The Christian church has the answer and this is the amnesty. It works just like the amnesty. Let corrupt leaders confess and denounce their actions. Be will to pay a 50% raparation on what they have gained through corrupt ways, they would then be subjected to an orientation and with a budge of honour they would be acceptable to public office. Those who refuse to accept this process, then the arm of justice will catch them. They will not be difficult to identify. because the amnesty will isolate them.  Individual should allowed to come out freely. it is like voluntary testing for HIV and carrying a budge which indicate that one has received corrution amnesty and free from prosecution and hopefully free from future acts of corruption. Does this sound like holding on straws when one is drawning? This is what it fees to live in a country where the leadeship is corrupt. There is a feeling of helplessness as the floods of corruption increase their levels swallowing whole society. What do you think????
