The Gospel of Reconciliation-What has gone wrong?

Whether in Rwanda or any where else it is the sinful nature of man that is showing up through wickedness unleashed upon fellow human beings.  In Rwanda the statistics of 89% “Christians” at time of that dreadful genocide, does not mean there was such high number of followers of Christ.  Then why are we surprised at the out come?

I live in a country where the Catholic population is 7% and I was one of them before becoming a believer.  The vast majority of them are anti Christian and anti Gospel and have no understanding of the basis on which we are accepted by God.   Christianity has become a form of religion and not a Christ centred life style beginning with a personal encounter with Christ.  This problem is every where in the world.  Preaching of a “Gospel of reconciliation with man” will hardly rectify this error.  “Be good, be at peace, do good” etc have been preached for centuries but man still is vile.  While Rwanda kills one million human beings who are already born, America, Europe or any other ‘Christian’ country kills millions of human beings who are still unborn.  The fallen nature of man is seen every where in the world.

The Gospel is the one which presents the Grace of God as the only means of reconciliation with God and Jesus Christ as the only person through whom God reaches unto man.  Isn’t that so?  The Gospel of the grace of God was that which Paul preached (Acts 20:24).  The Lord Jesus Christ is the author of salvation and eternal life.  Without a deep work of the Grace of God in human heart a mere Christianization of people does not have attitude changing effect or change of moral values of people. This is what happened in Rwanda and in many other places in the world.  That was all that could be expected of men and women who are not at peace with God.

I think our message should be that which was of Paul the apostle when he said “We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us, we pray (beg) you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”(2 Cor.5:20).  This seems to be the ministry of reconciliation that Paul talks about in Vs.18 as well.  Yes, this will result in man-man reconciliation but man-man reconciliation was never presented in the Bible as the mission of the disciples of the Lord Jesus.  If ever we preach ‘peace with man’ to the unregenerate, they misunderstand us of being promoters of religion, preaching the same old ‘be good, do good’ theory which they have already heard from their religious gurus. I believe that the answer lies in the preaching of the gospel of the grace of God, pleading with man to be reconciled with God.
