Major Priorities in Eradicating Bible Poverty

1) The three major questions are relevant because, it is important to understand the reason(s) why the scriptures may not be meeting the purpose for which they were written. Understanding the reasons should inspire and challenge us to prayerfully bring about appropriate solutions.

2) Other questions: What other effective ways and means can be used to communicate the scriptures? Aswers could include films/movies, drama, songs, dance and musics, Bible recitals, home Bible studies.

What are the short and long-term strategies for eradicating Bible Poverty

3) What examples of “Bible Poverty” do you see in your village, city and region? Ignorance – several communities lack knowledge of Christianity e.g. a village not too far away from I live with a population of about 200 inhabitants has no church and no Christians and yet no one to reach them with the Gospel. Indeed, the harvest is plenty but the labourers are few.

Illiteracy – many people lack basic literacy skills to read the scriptures.

Minority Language - few languages have Bibles translated in their native language.

Other predominant religions – several communities are predominantly moslem have no interest in non-moslem religions including Christianity, many see Christianity as competing with their religion and are resentful of any attempt of spreading the Gospel in their midst. There are reports people tearing and burning Bible and other Christian materials in an effort to stop what they consider an unwelcomed spread of Christianity amongst their people

4) Barriers

a) Illiteracy – most scriptures are in print form,

b) Availability - printed Bibles are expensive and in limited supply; other methods of presenting the scriptutres are rare.

5) God loves everyone and wants all people to be saved regardless of language and status.
