Jesus’ Guideline for Missionaries
Mission: “Go among the wolves like a lambs.”
Guidelines: Don’ts:
- Do not take a purse
- Do not take bag
- Do not take sandals
- Do not greet anyone on the road
- Do not move around from house to house
Dos:
1. When you enter any house, first say, ‘Peace to this house’
2. Stay in that house
3. Eat and drink whatever is provided v, 7,9
4. Heal the sick
5. Tell that the Kingdom of God is near you
These are challenges for developing a simple life-style of the missionaries, which is one of the objectives of Lausanne movement.
For me this is an abandoned Biblical Text for Mission Mandate of Jesus. By abandoned, I mean, it has not got prominence in mission discourse. So far it is almost completely ignored Biblical text in all the missionary conferences. We need to delve into it and find solution to the crisis in triumphalistic mission mandates. This text must be used as basis for social responsibility in our mission, a guide for simple life-style of missionaries.
