“When we think of connecting with realities within Africa, one controversial and disturbing issue is that of children at risk. The list of threats to our youth ranges from child soldiers to malnutrition to the overwhelming statistics of HIV infection… In every African country (and of course around the world as well), we are faced daily with visuals on TV, in magazines and on the internet of abused, exploited and hungry children and it’s easy for us to become desensitized.

“The big challenge for us as Christian leaders is evaluating the role and effectiveness of the church and evangelical programs in addressing children at risk…
