Do volunteer translators get paid?

We do not pay volunteer translators but we will give you credit for your work by listing your name in connection with each of your translations.

How do I submit a translation?

Go to the conversation page you would like to translate. Click on “submit new translation”. If you are not an approved translator for the LGC site, you will be able to fill out a form requesting approval to have access to translate content. If you are an approved translator you will be able to enter your finished translation. We strongly encourage translators to work in a separate document before pasting content into the form to avoid losing any of your work due to technical issues.

What content is available for translation by volunteers?

Volunteers are able to translate any primary user submitted content in the conversations area. All conversations (articles, blogs, videos, presentations, etc.) are available for translation.

What if I encounter difficulties in translation?

A discussion group exists for each language so that translators and proofers can ask and respond to difficulties specific to a language group. Connect with the groups through the following links:

Can I post part of the text and come back to it later?

No, the complete translation must be posted at one time. Once a translation is posted, it is available to the public. Please work on your translations offline and then copy and paste the completed translation into the Submit a New Translation form.

Can I edit my translation later?

Yes. The edit function is available to you to modify your posted text.

Can I edit someone else’s translation?

Yes. If you notice inaccuracies in an article translated into your language, you have the opportunity to suggest changes and converse with the original translator by private message. Use the "Suggest Edit to Translation" button below the translation to contact the original translator with your recommended changes. The translator can then edit their original translation as needed.

I disagree with the proofer/translator’s comments, what should I do?

We encourage you to try to resolve issues of translation accuracy amongst yourselves by private message through the communication center. Should you however still disagree, please contact the Multilingual Manager.
