To understand the proper order of love we much turn to the author of love that is found in scripture.  In 1Corinthians chapter thirteen we are told that love is one of the gifts of the Spirit.  Not only does it tell us that love is a gift but according to verse thirteen it is the greatest of these gifts.  If we love according to this biblical principal we will be reminded that love is never meant to be kept only for oneself.  Love is meant to be given and shared with those around us and when we love like this it will never be selfish.

By decreasing our self love and increasing the love that we have and share with others the more that God is seen. We often hear of stories of how others were saved, or witnessed to or, comforted and none of the stories have the hero promoting self love, or self glorification. The hero’s are also humble, in most cases risk takers and often show the love for others when often it seems they should be looking out for themselves as their first priority. It is very important as we try and show the love of God to others that we do this with a humble nature and a sensitive nature, waiting for the Lord’s prompting and through us he will shine.

When we talk about love we have to understand that we are refering to agape love. This love is what we as Christians should be manifesting in our live. 1 John 4:16 And we have come to know and to believethe love that God has in us. God is love, and the one who residesin love resides in God, and God resides in him.

If God is love and I have a relationship with God through the acceptance of God’s Son Jesus Christ, I cannot help but to love. All I know is to love because God’s love flows through me.

And the Word of God says this: Mark 12:29-31 “Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’[e] This is the first commandment.[f] 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[g] There is no other commandment greater than these.”” So, the greatest priorities is love God with everything that is within and YES love your neighbor as YOURSELF. You can’t love your neighbor until you love yourself. If you don’t love yourself, how are you comparing the love you have for your neighbor against as the Word commandeth. So, love God completely, Love yourself correctly and love other compassionately. But Yes ….you have to love yourself after God!
