I am a psychiatrist in Australia and go over to Asia1/year and consult (partner) (skype) on a weekly basis, with a couple (family doctor and counsellor) who are now living over there. This has now been going on for about five years. This seems to be empowering them to then connect with and understand a handful of excellent indignous counsellors. They are then empowered to serve the orphans, teenagers, church pastors, in a culturally sensitive way.

I guess we need to be so aware of maintaining unity (holding together tensions .... & very relevant re Ephesians), to avoid disunity which has occured over the last 40 years in the Western world in the area of Christian counselling. What takes 40 years in the West would take 4 years in this part of Asia, and so the importance of getting it right is highlighted.

Even today, spending time with a Christian psychologist here in Cape Town, engaging their help, while we went up to table Mountain and over to see Mandelas prison, will make it so much easier for me to respond more appropriately, particularly as we come up to a significant indigenous Christian counselling conference, in mid-November.

I find the C.onnect, U.nderstand, R.espond, E.ngage other help to be so useful especially when the fifth step of e.valuation (like sharing this experience) (The "C.U.R.E.e" steps) to be not only in mission, but also here, while at Cape Town!
