Opened Eyes

My first year of teaching, I taught in the same city where I grew up. I taught in the second poorest school in the district and was astounded at the poverty I saw in the faces of my students. It was even more astounding because I knew the great amount of resources my home church had. Without a doubt, changing the emphasis of the church to be missional could have transformed our city and saved my students from the life of poverty in which they lived. When will our churches have opened eyes to see that they are not for maintaining a false sense of reality, but for revealing the heart of God to those in need?
