The Great Divide: Global income inequality and its cost

Income inequality is surging. Economists warn of the dire consequences of this trend. The Great Divide Report from GlobalPost tries to uncover the ‘ground truth’ of inequality through the lenses of education, race, immigration, health care, government, labor and natural resources. Roll your cursor over the map to see the inequality in your country. I am sad to say that my country South Africa, has an inequality index of 0.65 – the second highest mentioned on the map with only Namibia being higher. Can we therefore be surprised that South Africa has such a big crime problem? Our American friends might be surprised when they use the dropdown menu to find which country their US metro area most closely match in terms of inequality. Charlotte, North Carolina where my sister lives for example matches Rwanda and Atlanta matches Mozambique! This is an excellent report that church leaders need to study and find solutions for.
