Evangelism Reclaimed

I spent the morning updating the CapeTown2010 Twitter feed and Facebook page which required poring through Tweets, blog posts, links and musings from attendees and observers from all over the world. Questions about compassion, stewardship and social justice were raised as was a heartwarming sense of what it means for people to be in community with people who are so different, yet so similar in their love of Jesus and interest in sharing the Gospel. One conversation in particular caught my attention, making me think of an article I wrote for the Fall 2010 issue of Neue Magazine (attached) called “Reclaiming Evangelism”. The conversation which appears to have begun here (http://www.jdpayne.org/2010/10/13/cape-town-2010-will-be-known-for/) seems to pit interest in social causes against, or at least in competition, with evangelism. Love to hear some thoughts on this and the notion I raise in Neue: that both evangelism and social justice are nothing if they are not motivated by following and serving by the leading of the Holy Spirit.Love to hear your thoughts on this…
