Christians all over the world can have a problem with ingratitude. We can lose perspective. We can forget where we have come from as well as what we have received by grace. We might look at something that seems to be unfair and react by complaining or arguing with the people whom we perceive to be responsible for our lack. If that happens, we live and operate like the world around us. By God’s grace, however, it is possible to be a "victor in any circumstance" instead of a "victim in paradise."

This is a definite problem in America, as well as many other profitable countries. Children are often raised with the idea that they are given something because it is their right and they deserve it. My mother did things a little differently by requiring me to "earn" all things I desired above and beyond the basic necessities of life and if I or my siblings complained about the status of those basic commodities like what there was to eat or what kind of clothes we had to wear, then she would take it away and tell us that we could live like the children whose mothers could not afford to feed and clothe them. This taught me the value of the life I was given by being born in America. When I think of all the starving, malnurished, and needy children in the world and I hear a child screaming in the local superstore because they were told "no" to getting a specific toy they wanted, I am appalled that we Americans can think of anything to complain about.
