Summer 2004 I went on a short-term mission trip with a ministry called Gospelink. Gospelink supports national pastors/missionaries in Africa, Russia, Eukraine, and India. At the time, it only cost around $1,000 USD to fully support a national pastor/missionary for a year. We were a team of half Americans and half Zambians. We worked together to share the Gospel in schools and do evening Jesus Film crusades. At the end of our trip, my Zambian team leader told me that he appreciated my service and asked if I would be back next year. I told him, "I don’t think so." He said, "Why not? We would like for you to come again." I said, "I would love to, but for just the cost of this trip alone, I could support one national missionary for 2 or 3 years." He thought about it for a second and said, "You’re right. Don’t come back." It was an agreement of mutual respect and sincerity.
