I also believe in the rapture because according to Scripture, it will be one of the greatest and most exciting events for the true believer.  Yes, I am aware of the fact that the work itself is not in the Bible, but the clear teaching and event is.  For example, I Thessalonians 4: 16-17 reads, "Our Lord Jesus told us that when He comes, we won’t go up to meet Him ahead of His followers who have already died.  With a loud command and with the shout of the chief anger and a blast of God’s trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven.  Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life.  Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky," (CEV).

@ Ernesto:

I am glad that you pointed out that the work itself is not in the Bible, but you know what is… the promise of Jesus’ second coming. I cannot wait to be face to face with my maker one day. How can we worship Him like the angels singing Holy! Holy! Holy! around the foot of His throne. That is what we should be worrying about not IF it will happen but How are we going to react to our Lord WHEN it does happen?

Okay, every comment on this page is about how much you all agree with each other, which is lovely.  However, if the Bible clearly said that we would be raptured, it would not be a subject of debate.  No one is saying that we won’t be with Christ when He comes back.  What the difference is lies in the word "parousia."  That is the term we translate as "rapture."  The connotation of the word in Greek means to go out, then to escort back in.  City officials would go out of town to meet the honored guest, then escort them back in to the town.  Therefore, the term "parousia" implies that we will be caught up to meet Christ, then escort Him back with us and He will be with us here. However, the term "rapture" is loaded and usually connected with a pre-tribulation belief.  Simply, most people who believe in this kind of rapture also believe that Christ will return and take away the Church before the Tribulation (which there is no indication in Scripture to believe).  Rapture is fine, but essentially what is the Church’s purpose?  To leave when it gets bad and let the ungodly world fend for itself?  No!  We are a light in the darkness! As long as there are people on earth, there will be a mission for the Church and a purpose for us to be here.

I believe in the rapture, being caught up with Christ. I don’t
care what academic theologians believe. At the end of the day, I am responsible
for my beliefs. I know in Seminary we are told to seek the commentaries and the
mindset of the “published” theologians, but I serve I God that says if I want
wisdom, I simply ask for it and that the Holy Spirit will teach me all things.
I don’t pick and choose what to believe from the bible…1Thessalonians 4:17 says
it…that settles it for me. I believe it….Oh, I am sold out to the Word of God….His
Word is my life.

It always seems hard for all believers to agree on any topic in the Bible. I wish I could read the Hebrew and Greek forms of the Bible just so I could know 100% what was said. The Bible is open to interpretation a lot of the time so that leaves a lot of room for error. I believe if you spend time with God in prayer and meditating over His Word, He will speak to you and help you understand what God is about and what scripture is trying to tell us.

I wonder do we get to chose a better look? LOL

I believe in the rapture so much one night I could have sworn I heard a trumpet sound, jumped up and said: wait for me!

Why do people not believe or question it: I feel it is because if it is real than they have to look inward to the reality of where they stand with God and act accordingly!

Good Blog!!!!!

We should all try to trust God at His Word. I think people are so spoiled today that we expect to be able to see everything and understand everything instead of just having the faith in God that we are supposed to have and letting His Word be all we need to believe in and trust in Him.

I know I could be completely wrong but I feel like a lot of “Christians” think of the Bible as just a book of stories and not as the WORD of God. Today in time we are jaded to all of the miracles that God preforms every-day that we do not stop to appreciate them and their wonder. The rapture is a miracle that will happen one day and for those of us who believe it will just be a way to appreciate God for what He really is. And as far as the people that don’t believe it will be reassurance of their lack of faith in God.

When I was a child I used to sing a song
about the Rapture. “Just in Case of Rapture”

Just in case of Rapture, let me make this clear. It’s only fair to warn you that you’ll see me disappear. But even while we stand here, so it comes as no surprise, I could leave at any moment in the twinkling of an eye. Just in case you see the Rapture take place. I want you to know, I’m really gonna have to go. I can’t hang around when I hear that trumpet sound. So just in case of Rapture, don’t look for me around. Now you might see me on a plane or walking down the street. Now you see me, now you don’t, that’s how it’s gonna be. But just in case you haven’t heard, Jesus died for you, if you’ll let Him in your heart -----, then you’ll be leaving too.

This song has held a special place in my heart and in my Christian life. It is part of my faith in God that He is coming to get us someday.

I believe in the rapture because the bible teaches it and that settles the matter for me.  Though the word "rapture" is not in the bible but the scriptures give a detail account when Jesus will come and rapture the church away.  Theologians who don’t believe in the rapture may be in store for a rude awakening one day!

I agree with you. Jesus is coming back someday. We never know when it will happen but in the blink of an eye Jesus will come back to earth. I don’t understand how people can pick parts of the Bible to believe and parts to throw out. I believe that God’s word is the only truth in the world so we need to get all of our teachings from there.

I also believe in the rapture, being caught up to God.  There are several prototypes in the Bible-- Moses, Elijah, Christ.  We had a minister who taught our children that there was no such event. Wow, I wonder what they will do when it happens?

I think we will remain dead until "that day".  Meaning I think people are currently dead in their graves.... I’m basing this off what I read in John 14.

I agree brother, we are creatures and like all creation we die and unless we are raised by our creator. This should not be depressing but instead wonderous that God can raise us on the last day conquering death for each of us.

WOW is right! I was always taught that one glorious day the trumpets will sound and the sky will change and Jesus will come back for his people. People have been saying for decades/centuries that Jesus is coming back soon… But if a moment is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a moment to God, Jesus will be coming back sometime soon.

If that is the case how do you take II Corinthians 5:6-8?
"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

God is capable of doing anything and everything. God created everything and has the power to do anything that He wishes. We have no idea what God plans to do on the last day of the earth, but all I know is if I am not already in my heavenly home by death He will call me home finally. We need to remember to let God be God and stop putting limints on His power and wisdom.

I do not belive in the rapture. When I read the Apocalypse of St. John I do not any evidence for such a thing. I feel as though the seeds of despinsationalism have plant the idea that the church somehow  gets to escape suffering. My savior suffered, the martyrs suffered, and almost all of the Apostles suffered, so why is it that I will be able to escape suffering. And If i am so willing to peice meal my eschatology from a theology that has little tradition and little contextual evidence in order to escape suffering for my Lord than should I not be ashamed to call those who have gone before brother and sister. I do not want to suffer but I also do not want to give false hope that the church is given a pass when it comes to the end of things.

Of course I believe Jesus is coming back but the ideas people have about how that happens comes from a view of Revaltion out of context. We cannot take what is apocolyptic symbolism and think of it as literal instead we must view it as poetic not unture not that it is not going to happen but look at what the symbols mean not just the symbols.
