The incarnational mystery is one of engagement, living among us, sharing our lives and circumstances.

Business as Mission recognizes our calling to be salt and light in the marketplace. It is not about evacuating Christians from a sinful and corrupt commercial sphere, but rather becoming an answer to the Lord’s Prayer: May your Kingdom come in the business world. We are a part of an invasion force, as it were.

Being involved in business, shaping it for God and…

During the first quarter of 2013, I spoke in several self-described "international churches" located in large cities. There is one congregation that is mono-ethnic and mono-culture, but bilingual due to its mostly first and second generation Far East Asians. Affixed to their church sign or billboard…

The Silly Things we Find Profound: Over-Contextualization and the Power of the Gospel

"The power is not in contextualization; it’s in the Gospel" (being attributed to Jason Meyer)

and

"Do you fear over-contextualization or under-contextualization? This is the missionary tension you will always be in." (being attributed to Darrin Patrick)

I find both of these statements to be kind of silly. As for the first, is Meyer suggesting that there are people who believe that the power of salvation is actually located in contextualization? And, if so, what the heck would that…

Bhutanese Refugees Are Killing Themselves at an Astonishing Rate
- Danielle Preiss - The Atlantic:
The study team confirmed the government’s suspicions; the problem was endemic. The global suicide rate per 100,000 people--how suicide rates are calculated--is 16, and the rate for the general U.S. population is 12.4. The Bhutanese rate is much higher: 20.3 among U.S. resettled…

Generosity is becoming a main theme among Christian leaders. Chris Willard of Leadership Network calls generosity ‘the new evangelism’. It is therefore understandable that more and more Christians request different kinds of generosity training. There are also a growing number of Christian based generosity training programmes. The Lausanne/WEA Global Generosity Network (http://generositymovement.org/about/) therefore decided to organise a global consultation on Christian generosity training. This is information on this important consultation.

It should be a characteristic of each Christian. Money Revolution deals with these issues but it also challenges Christians to think about spending and saving as part of that expression of faith. Lifestyle choices such as cars, holidays, homes and the products we buy for daily living reveal something about our values and principles. The same with the way we approach issues of credit and debt. A must read for every Christian, the Money Revolution provides sound Biblical principles on the way we should steward our financial resources.

In discussion of the social and political status of Christianity in China, the relationship of the churches and the government naturally takes centre stage. Nonetheless, how the faith and its growing influence are viewed in China is caught up in a confusing cauldron of competing political and moral ideologies that vie for China’s future. As China’s driving market economy and growing liberalization have rendered the old…

Introduction

Generosity is emerging as a key theme in the global evangelical community. In the October 2012 European Evangelical Alliance (EEA) Newsletter, the outgoing EEA General Secretary wrote: “‘Generosity’ (the art of giving) will become an increasingly important subject to deal with in churches and organizations. It is necessary that the European church shows a more convincing example of hospitality, care, giving time, energy, and money for the case…

South Asia (SA) houses the largest concentration of Muslims in the world. Post-partition India, in particular, has a large and diverse population of Muslims. Most of these appear to be increasingly becoming aware of their ‘religious minority’ status. This poses particular challenges in formulating appropriate Christian approaches to, and engagement with, them.

Context

There have been migrations of Muslims in the subcontinent for centuries. These migrants gradually became aligned…

Indeed the cases can be viewed as part of the…

First, God’s Word will be referenced to determine your spiritual situation before receiving Christ. Second, the Bible will be consulted to learn of your vastly different spiritual situation after receiving Jesus into your life. As you will note, the diametrically opposed spiritual realities of a person before and after receiving Christ are numerous and immensely significant, not only for this life but also for the life to come.

It functions as a gateway to ideas, resources, and opportunities that never could have been realized before, let alone fathomed. All around the world, the Internet is helping people to imagine new possibilities—and then, to make them happen. But women and girls are being left behind’. The ‘Women and the Web’ report (www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/pdf/women-and-the-web.pdf) examines the barriers that prevent women from accessing the Internet in developing countries and how Internet access for women could be expanded in those countries.

Greetings from the Global Generosity Network, the initiative of the Lausanne Movement and World Evangelical Alliance that encourages Christian stewardship, generosity, giving and resource mobilisation.

We appreciate the positive comments to the generosity resources information that I distributed in December last year. It is great to hear how these resources are used by individuals and in discussions, small groups and churches. I posted new resources on the Internet that I believe will help improve Christian stewardship, generous living and Kingdom giving. Just visit the following websites (if needed cut and paste the url address in your browser):

The term now is being peddled as a means to political liberation for the reason that it coincides with our 50 years of independence.

But our politicians are not alone in this as some gospel preachers have joined the bandwagon attaching kerygmatic value to this term ever than before. This has brought about confusion in the way it is being handled. For instance, throwing about scriptural references in all sorts of direction without proper hermeneutical application has been prevalent. The church in Kenya therefore needs…

Against a backdrop of tough economic times, evidence indicates that fewer people are giving. Many are giving less. The overall impact is that giving fell by 20% between 2010/11 and 2011/12. It is too early to know whether this is the beginning of a trend or a one-off; a blip in an otherwise enduring relationship between the public and charitable giving. The fall in giving has a serious impact on charities in the UK with many having to close down or reduce their services.

Whether we are comfortable, broke, or somewhere in between, we all have questions about money. The Money Revolution offers a distinctively Christian slant on issues such as:
Ethical spending Credit and Debt Savings Generosity Insurance

The website explains why we need a money revolution, offers a range of resources to encourage and equip Christians in thinking about their money from a faith viewpoint and challenges Christians to ’be active in their stewardship’. An outline of the site and presentation on the book are included as attachments.

The article explains how the campaigned gained further momentum in 2012. It presents a challenge to Christians to pledge a larger percentage of their wealth and income to Kingdom causes.

A giving champion’s spheres of influence include family, peers, church, business, community, and world.

In this sermon outline John Richardson focuses on how Christians should imitate the generosity of God. After all, He is the springboard for generosity. He is our starting place and He is what makes the money conversation so important for churches. It’s not about raising money, it’s about making disciples; it’s not about filling the offering plates, it’s about being conformed to the image of Christ. With that mindset, Richardson pulled together 3 big ideas for preaching on the generosity of God.
