Medical experts can evaluate a person’s physical condition by reliable observation and testing. In the spiritual dimension, a biblical diagnosis can also reveal the spiritual health of the church (ekklesia) when key aspects of Body Life are examined.

I like what the author of this article is doing. A check-up for the health of the local church is a good thing to do on a regular basis. It’s so easy for the church to drift off its mission. In fact, the tendency is to drift toward self-centeredness and self-preservation. Just like when you hear the serious words from a doctor who tells you that you are going to die if you don’t incorporate some life-style changes, the church needs to hear the truth about how far we’ve drifted. We have to be clear about our mission and our reason for existence. Once we’re clear on that, as a baseline, we can assess our health or un-health and prescribe specific changes.

The body will endure many challenges and pains and the body
will return to the dust from whence it came healthy or sick. But our soul will
go where we choose, Heaven or hell, what are we doing to promote the health of
our soul so we can reign with Christ.

I am a firm believer that one’s physical wellness does effect one’s spiritual wellness. It’s a proven fact that if the inner man is well the physical man can be well. I believe that the three spiritual disciplines of Scripture reading, prayer and meditation are essentials in one’s physical wellness.

@ Robert_Setzer:
Well said. I think it goes back to a balanced spiritual lifestyle or for that matter balance period. You offer three disciplines that ideally should be easy to intergrate into daily living.

I believe one can be physically healthy but at the same time s[iriually sick. Bodily exercise profit little there need to be a balance.

@ johnboy:
Seems like "balance" is a bad word in the church. We operate at extremes and it seems that we like it that way. Unfortunately we can look around and see the effects of such.
