These three words—grace, mercy, and peace—are recognized by believers in Christ but often “brushed over” when these words are read in Scripture, heard in sermons, or spoken in spiritually oriented conversations. This overview is prayerfully presented to increase your awe and appreciation for God’s personalized care on your behalf . . . expressed through His divine grace, mercy, and peace. After all, if Paul and other writers of Scripture were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write these three words so many times, then they must convey an important message for each of us to understand and appropriate in our daily lives.

The only response I have is

John 13:35 (NKJV)  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

When we love each other earnestly, we will render mercy and grace and peace will be within.

@ J_Ruth: That is such a good reminder. When we extend the qualites of God to others, it transforms us from within as well. It is a blessing to all.

One of my favorite verses of scripture. If only we could, as a whole, truly put these words into practice to shine the light of Christ. This is our challenge and it is truly a tall task that stands before us.

That really is the challenge though, extending these qualities to others in our lives. This is a message that I attempt to share on a regular basis with the people at the church that I serve. The best way that I have found to present this message is through leading by example.

You are so right. It saddens me when I hear that most people in the United States perceieve Christians in highly negative ways. As Christians, we should be the examples of grace, peace, and mercy for the world. We should be full of these things that Christ has shown us. The best way to transfer these concepts to our congregations and the world is through exemplifying them ourselves.

Grace, mercy, and peace are three precious words that always leave me in awe! That awe immediately reminds me of how much God loves me/us. His gifts of grace, mercy, and peace are given by Him so generously, which have taught me to extend mercy and peace to others.

Even though we don’t really deserve any of the three from God, we receive ALL three of them freely from God.  Without grace, mercy, and peace, our lives would look completely different, and we wouldn’t have any hope for the future.  I also find myself in awe everytime I think about these three gifts from God.

Grace = getting what we could never deserve/earn. I am so thankful for all three of these but especially for grace! With out grace we would have no eternity because on our own we deserve death and nothing short of it. Thank you Lord for you grace!

All three of these words bring to mind the greatest sense of joy that I can imagine. I find myself at times pondering how exactly God could give me any of these wonderful gifts, let alone all of them and much more. Perhaps if we, as Christians, reflected on these words a bit more and spent more time reflecting on God we could be more effective at sharing this wonderful news with others.

These are so important words and blessings that the apostle Paul uses them we he writes to Timothy, somebody that he truly loved, respect and honored. Many letters he writes grace and peace.

I was blessed by grace, mercy and peace at the age of eight when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  Since then, I have studied God’s word and I have grown spiritually in my understanding of what these three words truly mean.  My understanding has led me to know that these three words were not just meant for me, but for me to share with others.  Jesus showed us while on earth on many occasions in parables and stories about these words.  As a Pastor, I am charged with living out my life in such a way that I demonstrate grace, mercy and peace to other and not only am I to live it out, I am to teach and preach messages that encourage the believers in the church to also live out this three words.

Grace, Mercy, and Peace are gifts from the Father that we should always keep before us. Many times we who are saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Spirit are the ones who are so hard on unchurched individuals when they come to the house of God. If Jesus provided grace, mercy, and peace unto us which brought us to new creatures in Christ, can’t we allow the same gifts to be at work in bringing others to the Lord. It was grace that brought me thus far, it was mercy that brought forgiveness of sins, and the peace that passeth all understanding should be a part of all believers as we unpack the word of God to win the lost.

Grace...Mercy and.... Peace....three gifts for being connected to God through Jesus. Plain and simply, but sometimes we as Christians try to dictate and ration how much grace, mercy and peace others get. We are not the ultimate manufacturer of these gifts..we don’t give these gifts ourselves...we share them...because we as mature Christians know they were given to us when we made Christ our Lord. We can show mercy show because God showed us, we can share mercy, because God makes it available to us and we encourage peace because we go to Christ with our burdens

Grace...mercy...peace...gifts we share...because God gave them to His children.

I feel people take advantage of Gods grace and mercy and don’t seek peace in the way a christian should. Grace and mercy go hand in hand in my opinion, you can’t speak of grace without mercy. grace, we are sinners, gulity of our sinful acts, yet mercy is given by a loving and caring God. When the people of God who profess Jesus as their/ our our Lord and savior make Jesus Lord over our lives, we will not stumble over these three attributes of Gods Character but will seek to find peace with all of humanity, walking in the Love of Christ.

Amen, Phil! Folks do have to realized that where much is given much is required. Sometimes those who have receive a lot of grace and mercy forget to extend it to others.

I do not know why anybody would want to brush over grace, mercy, and truth. Because of God’s grace, mercy, and truth, we have an opportunity for eternal life.

Rachel, I think it is because these concepts are ones that make us drop our guard. These words tell us that there is nothing that we can do to fix ourselves and we must rely on God. Too many people do not want to deal with that!

It is true that grace, peace and mercy are important words. They are really more than that. Grace, peace and mercy are gifts to us from God. Grace is given when we do not deserve it. Mercy is what God withholds and is what we do deserve. Peace is what God brings to us. God gives us the grace, peace and mercy we need to live for him. I sure that is why Paul constantly used these words in his letters to keep before us and remind us of God’s great love.

@ lmorrison:

Both mercy and grace are God’s gift to humanity.  Neither of these gifts are deserved by humanity.  Grace has a wide usage of meanings--commonly understood as "gift" but also is what stands in the place of humanity weaknesses.  In that light grace is the expiatory act of Christ on the cross, for it was/is Christ who stands where we cannot stand.  Weakness implies that we are not in the will of God, therefore grace covers  us even when we have fallen, which makes it God’s unmerited favor on our lives.
