Born in Redcar, Yorkshire and grew up in Hull. Studied Aeronautical Engineering at Churchill College, Cambridge and worked for some years in aviation research. Went to West Africa with Mission Aviation Fellowship and served as a pilot for 15 years. Appointed Director of a British youth organisation in 1983. Began working with Interdev on partnership development in 1992 and in 2002 was appointed International Director for the European Christian Mission.
