Mission mobile Evangelistic and Training programs among low and higher Institutions of learning, local churches and Bible colleges for Men and Women in various leadership/gender issues, Social-economic Transformational development and Christian Mission Studies and Research Programs. HIV/AIDS focus on; Awareness building, prevention, counseling Care support and policy advocacy like Abstinence for youths before marriage and Being faithful among adults. HIV/AIDS social-economic empowerment emphasizes creation of an enabling environment for survival among the infected and the affected family members.
Other Projects under consideration for implementation: HIV/AIDS Rural Housing Development, Nutritional Feeding through Fruits and Vegetable Food security program and income generating Activity at the household level. Orphanage ministry empowerment through Child-Hope Program, to cater for primary to university education And Vocational training, especially using Information Communication Technology (ICT) for development in Computer Basic skills development. Special emphasis on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Programs.
Project Activities: AFCI/SWM Mobile Training programs among Local Churches, Bible Colleges, Faith Based Christian Mission Agencies and Universities in order to develop young professionals for Christ in Nation and Kingdom building. HIV/AIDS Peer Education among colleges/high schools and Universities mainly around Kampala and Wakiso districts. Peer Education covers between 50-100 members each session covering at least three schools per term or Semester (quarterly period) in each targeted institution. Peer education comes with a package of other activities like training in HIV/AIDS counseling and home care support, behavioral change through Abstinence for youths and being faithful among adults, herbal medicine and nutritional feeding, Spiritual enrichment of the mind and soul for psychological support.
Key achievements: Since 1993, we have trained over 5000 men and women in Christian Mission and Holistic Development through local churches, Colleges and University institutions of higher learning to become more involved in Christian Mission for Nation and Kingdom building, trainees came from East African region of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Southern Sudan. Most of these are now Local Pastors and Bible Teachers in their respective areas of ministry. This year 2009 we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with William Carey International University at the United States Centre for World Mission in Pasadena, California, USA to begin long distance training under WCIU for Christian Missions and Development. Young people are becoming more receptive to the idea of behavioral change through Sexual Abstinence before marriage as opposed to the previously overwhelming belief in condom use only. Decrease in other STDs risky behaviors among young people who have taken abstinence seriously. More low and higher institutions of learning are opening up their doors for our outreach programs on HIV/AIDS. Stigmatization and discrimination among the infected young people has Reduced drastically, the affected friends and family members are now opening up their social-network, love, respect and support, thus supporting the fundamental values of human rights and dignity for every person as enshrined in the Uganda Constitution.
Main Challenges: We have just finalized a project proposal for a Multi-Purpose Learning Centre for Information Communication Technology, Christian Mission and Development and Research Programs, we are now seeking international partners to set up the ground infrastructure development for this facility. We would like to establish partners in Christian Mission and Development in ICT from around the world. Organizational level challenges-Facilitation mobilization in terms of materials and financial resources, we need international and local partners. Capacity building program for human resource developments for continuing policy development and skill development among AFCI Staff and Volunteers. Organizational Development towards an efficient and dynamic project management and program administration on the standard level of Civil Society Institutional Capacity Building Plan of action in order to network effectively with other Civil Society members. Program implementation level-Lack of Transportation facilitation reduces and weakens our mobility, thus limiting our outreach programs. Lack of adequate training materials like equipments for information technology program administration like computers, public address system, and visual aids like power point projector, DVD/VHS Videos for the film programs, all senior staff, supervisors and chief volunteers need mobile phones, this limits our communication abilities among young people.
Lessons learned: AFCI/SWM Mobile Training program needs to increase its local partnership with more local churches, bible colleges, low and high institutions of learning both in the Rural and Urban Christian Communities by setting up coordinating centers. Networking with other Civil Society stakeholders in HIV/AIDS programs, especially those with similar core values morally and ethically, this is to avoid duplication of activities among target beneficiaries, increase skills development in planning, implementation, standard Monitoring and Evaluation methods. Joint planning and project implementation with the beneficiary leadership in order to gain on cost and risk-sharing experiences. Development Partners should take local resource mobilization seriously for sustainability purposes. Donor resources should come in as supplement to strengthen local resources mobilization, where possible.
Future Plans: First and foremost is AFCI Institutional Capacity Building Program, four years plan of action 2009-2012. This include among others: To enhance a standardized Civil Society Institutional Framework within AFCI organizational culture and program administration to correspond with the national plan of action on CSOs. To Scale up the level of competence among AFCI staff in dealing with program administration and project management at the workplace. To ensure that AFCI staff and volunteers are up-to-date with changes and Innovation on CSOs capacity building program like HIV/AIDS national and international policy advocacy and a workable coping mechanism among the infected and affected friends and family members. To promote Gender mainstreaming in all AFCI Civil Society Capacity Building Networks. To propagate the Kingdom of God through Christian Mission Training, Gospel Film Ministry for Discipleship, Evangelistic Purposes and Church Growth under our AFCI/School of World Mission for Holistic Transformation Development, Church Planting and Leadership Development among local Churches, low and higher institutions of learning and Civil Society Networks.
